Village of Shorewood Ranked #5 in the U.S. & #1 in Wisconsin for Safest Cities to Raise Children

The Village of Shorewood was ranked #5 in the nation and #1 in the state on a list of the Safest Cities to Raise Children compiled through a research study conducted by SafeWise.

The SafeWise study first narrowed down the list to the top 200 safest cities in the country based on violent crime rates per 1,000 people and their overall child safety score.
The study looked at a total of eight factors to help identify the overall child safety score: violent crimes, AMBER Alerts, sex offenders, child abuse, school quality, pedestrian deaths, walkability score, and state free-range parenting legislation. Each score was standardized to calculate their total score and ranking. City-specific data was given extra weight, and high scores (overall) were most favorable.

Cities in the top thirty are considered “very walkable,” which means that most errands can be accomplished on foot.

In addition to being among the top 5 Safest Cities to Raise Children in the nation based on this scoring methodology, the Village of Shorewood was also ranked #1 in Wisconsin. Notably, the study found that Wisconsin has more safe cities for children than any other state—32% of the top 50 cities hail from the Badger State.
