The Conservation Committee is hosting three upcoming movie screenings as a part of their Environmental Film Festival. The first one will be "Racing to Zero," which will be Friday, February 3, 2017 at 7 p.m. There has been a change in location for this event as the showing is now scheduled to be seen in the Village Center's lower level. "Racing to Zero" follows the collective zero-waste efforts of San Francisco, which is successfully taking the necessary steps: increased recycling, creative repurposing, composting to recycle organics back into the earth, and changing patterns of production and consumption. Diminishing non-recyclables has already radically reduced the amount of garbage that is sent to the city's landfills. In fact, San Francisco leads the nation by keeping 78% of its garbage out of landfill. For the showing, the Lake Bluff PTO will be selling snacks to raise money for the new kindergarten playground.
