Best Buddies Say Thanks

Twelve "Partners in Crime" and other donors recently joined Shorewood High School Best Buddies for an evening of good food, fun and celebration at the Urban Ecology Center. The Best Buddies raised enough funds for their trip to Hawaii this spring, thanks, in large part, to the following donors: Guy Johnson (Village of Shorewood President), LaVar Ridgeway (Shorewood School District Athletic Director), Mary Rhuland, Powers Reality, Brian Schulteis (Shorewood High School teacher), Shorewood School Board Members Paru Shah and Ruth Treisman, Shorewood Police Department Lt. Chrissy Preston, Mark Harris, (Shorewood Intermediate School Principal), Ken Leinbach, Jeff Cyganiak (Shorewood School District Director of Special Education) and Melissa Nelsen (Shorewood SEED President). All of the donors donned orange jump suits and were "arrested" for helping SHS students escape to Hawaii. Each had to post $1,000 bail to be released from custody. The bail money helped the Buddies reach their Fundraising goal

In addition to the individuals listed above, numerous other Shorewood Businesses, including YoMama, Culver's, Collectivo, Feerick's Funeral Home, Einstein Bagels, TCF Bank, North Shore Bank, North Shore Kiwanis, Pick-n-Save, Hayeks, Ticket King, Masonic Lodge, Urban Ecology Center, Sendik's, and The Establishment, also helped the Buddies raise money for their trip. Countless other individual donors also contributed to the effort, and the dinner would not have been possible without Kathy Papineau, from Soup in a Jar, and student volunteer Elise Chapman.
