SIS Visual Art
Once students enter Shorewood Intermediate School, or SIS, they take a quarter of art during their seventh and eighth grade years.
In 7th grade, the curriculum emphasizes studio arts, such as drawing, painting, ceramics, and more.
The following year, in 8th grade, the curriculum focuses on popular and communication arts, such as architectural design, graffiti styling, and screen-printing, among others. In eighth grade, students also have the opportunity to apply to enroll in the school's Advanced Art class. To be considered for Advanced Art enrollment, students must submit a portfolio to the course instructor at the end of their 7th grade year.
During both years, students study art history, art criticism, and self-evaluation are key components of the artistic process.
