Dear Shorewood Families,
I know there has been a lot of information in the news this week related to the overturned Stay at Home order. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work through what this means for our District heading into the summer months. In regards to the Wisconsin Supreme Court decision, page 31 of the court opinion includes a footnote stating the decision does not apply to Section 4.a. of the Stay-at-Home order which reads:
- All of the following facilities shall be closed: a. Schools. Public and private K-12 schools shall remain closed for pupil instruction and extracurricular activities for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Schools may continue to facilitate distance learning or virtual learning. Schools may continue to be used for Essential Government Functions and food distribution.
Therefore, our school buildings will be closed for pupil instruction and extracurricular activities (including Recreation Department programming) for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, defined as ending June 30 by the Department of Public Instruction. We will be working with Milestones Programs for Children to provide childcare for essential workers beginning Monday, May 18 at Lake Bluff Elementary and Tuesday, May 26 at Atwater Elementary.
Our virtual learning will continue to follow our 2019-2020 District Calendar. Please note, this means there will be no classes or office hours held on the following days:
- Friday, May 22 - All students
- Monday, May 25 - All students
- Friday, June 5 - Atwater & Lake Bluff Elementary students
Additionally, for those with seniors, the last day of school for the graduating Class of 2020 will be Friday, June 5. For all other students, we will continue with virtual education through the last day of school on Thursday, June 11.
I also want to remind you that should you or your student need any health and wellness resources during this time, we have a page on our website dedicated to all the District updates and wellness resources that have been provided during the closures: https://www.shorewood.k12.wi.us/apps/pages/covid19.
Thank you again for all of your support and I look forward to finishing off these last few weeks of virtual learning on a high note.
Enjoy your weekend,
Dr. Bryan Davis
Shorewood Schools Superintendent
