End of Year Message from Superintendent Davis - June 11

Dear Shorewood Families,

We made it! Congratulations to you and your students for successfully completing the 2019-2020 school year.

While it was nothing like we expected and many unforeseen challenges tested us in the biggest of ways, I am incredibly proud of our school community. Our students, staff, and families overcame many difficulties with strength, resilience and teamwork. I can’t say thank you enough for your dedication and commitment to your students and our District.

As we wrap up this school year and plan for the summer and fall, there are a few important updates to share:

Food Service

Our food service program will continue to provide bagged breakfast and lunch every weekday for children 18-under, 9:30am-11:30am, for the remainder of June. The last day of food service is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30.

Summer Recreation Programming

The Shorewood Recreation Department plans to start some summer offerings beginning Monday, July 6, with strict safety protocols in place. These classes will be held in small sizes, 10 people or less for indoor activities and 50 people or less for outdoor activities, in accordance with health and safety guidelines, and may be subject to other limitations. To view which classes are available starting in July, visit shorewood recreation.org. The Recreation Department is still working through plans for reopening the pools, and more information will be forthcoming through newsletters, the website, and the Facebook page. If you have any further questions, please reach out to jbrooks@shorewood.k12.wi.us. The health and safety of the staff and participants is the Recreation Department’s top priority and they will continue to monitor direction from the state and local authorities moving forward.

Fitness Center

The Fitness Center plans to open on or after July 1. The reopening plan, which was crafted with the help of guidelines from various businesses and government agencies, includes three phases. View the Fitness Center reopening plan here. With any questions regarding the Fitness Center, please contact dwinger@shorewood.k12.wi.us

Construction Begins

Fencing, job trailers and signage are visible around Atwater and Lake Bluff Elementary Schools as Miron Construction crews mobilize for the first phase of construction. In keeping with the Village ordinance, construction will be limited to the hours between 7am- 6pm.

Residents who live close to Atwater and Lake Bluff may receive a “Good Neighbor” postcard in the mail by the end of this week. This postcard has direct Miron Construction contact information on it.

Safety is our first priority. The Shorewood School Board and administration are working closely with the District’s owner’s representative Mike Huffman, and construction manager Miron Construction to ensure the safety of active construction sites. We will continue to keep our community informed as the projects progress. Please contact the District office at 414.963.6900 if you have immediate concerns.

We are excited to get started with improvements kicking off at three schools this summer. Please visit the District website to view detailed site maps of the scope of work.

School Reopening Workgroup

As we work through the COVID-19 landscape and prepare for the 2020-2021 school year with the help of the Reopening Workgroup, we will continue to share updates with our families. These weekly updates can be found on the District website and will be organized by week

Thank you again for your unwavering support of our schools and students. I am confident that together we can successfully navigate any challenges that lie ahead and I look forward to seeing you all in the fall.

Thank you and enjoy your summer,

Bryan Davis, Shorewood Schools Superintendent
