Shorewood Students' Advocacy Work Donations

Dear Shorewood Families,

Following Saturday, June 6, when Shorewood students led a Black Lives Matter rally and march, we have received multiple requests for how people can support and/or donate to further our students’ advocacy work. In discussing this with our student leaders, it was determined that funds donated towards this cause will be used to support the student advocacy organization, Youth Rising Up* in the following ways:

  • Advocacy work at SHS and advocacy work outside of SHS as identified by Youth Rising Up members
  • Leadership opportunities such as speaking/participating at local, state and national conferences

*Youth Rising Up serves as a student organization to foster student development through diversity, academics, and social services. The purpose of Y.R.U. is to promote activities of common interest, as well as cultural and educational benefits for all students. In addition, to continue to promote community and self-enrichment by way of community service and volunteerism.

To donate to Y.R.U., please click the following link and follow the instructions: https://www.shorewood.k12.wi.us/apps/pages/equity

Y.R.U. also encourages supporters to consider “an additional contribution to Black Lives Matter to support the critical, ongoing work to end the appalling brutality against people of color.”

If you are interested in donating to one of our many other amazing student clubs and organizations, there is also a donation button located on the main page of the District website (underneath the News & Announcements section).

When making your donation, please be sure to indicate which student organization you want your donation to be allocated to, by typing the organization’s name into the "Add a note" section of the PayPal transaction.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our students.

Sincerely,

Tim Kenney
Shorewood High School Principal
