Shorewood Public Library Reverts to Curbside-Only Services

November 24, 2020

Dear Shorewood students, parents, caregivers and teachers,

It is with heavy hearts that we share our decision to close our doors and begin offering curbside-only service beginning Wednesday, November 25.

Our hours will remain the same: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Mon-Thurs, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Friday, and 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Saturday. We are closed November 26 & 27 for Thanksgiving.

The state of the pandemic has worsened in our community and across Wisconsin. We can no longer guarantee a safe environment for the public and our staff, despite the significant effort we have put into risk mitigation inside the library.

Curbside services will look a little different this time around: You will still be able to place requests for material from all over Milwaukee County via the library catalog/app and/or by calling us. We will continue to receive daily delivery within the library system so your holds are filled efficiently.

We are working hard on a menu of remote and curbside services so we can meet as many needs as possible while we can't invite you inside:

  • Pick up requested materials that are ready for you on our holdshelf.
  • Pick up program kits such as Art Cart, Family Fun Night To Go, and other take and makes for teens and adults. Check our events calendar for virtual events on Facebook and via Zoom.
  • Renew your library card online. We are working on an online form so those who don't have a library card can get one!
  • Pay fines online or curbside with cash or check.
  • Renew items online, via text message if that is how you receive notifications, or by calling us during open hours.
  • Our librarians are working on creative ways for you to "browse" the library without coming inside.
  • We continue to offer robust online resources, and reference librarians are here during all open hours to help you use them.
  • If there is anything you need that you don't see listed here, just ask us and we will determine if we can find a way to do it for you.

We recognize that much of what we can offer at this time does not meet your needs if you don't have access to a computer or internet at home. We apologize, and sympathize, and look forward to serving you inside again in the near future.

We will continue to communicate with you via social media, our website, and via signage on the library doors when applicable. If you know a library user who does not have internet access and needs to know about the library's changes in service, please share this information with them!

Please email us ([email protected]) or call us at 414-847-2670 with your questions.  Our doors may be locked, but we are here to serve you!

Sincerely,

Rachel Collins, Shorewood Public Library Director
