COVID-19 Burden Level & Learning Model Updates - 2/7/21

Dear District Families,

I hope you were able to stay warm during this frigid weekend. This is an update on our Covid-19 burden level and our learning models.

The COVID-19 community case burden in Shorewood was 152 on Friday, February 5.  This burden level, along with a low test positivity rate of 3.4% last week in Shorewood, indicates our mitigation efforts are being effective.  Keep up the good work!

We continue to adapt our learning models to our Covid-19 environment.  Here are the latest updates on our learning models:

Shorewood Elementary Schools

Atwater and Lake Bluff elementary schools are currently in an AM/PM hybrid learning model. The Covid-19 burden level threshold to transition to full day, 5 days a week in person instruction is 200.  If we have a Covid-19 burden level under 200 for two consecutive weeks, we will plan for a transition to full days five days a week of in person instruction with a remote learning option.   Since we have a Covid-19 burden level of 152 this week, we will be watching next week to see if we can get a second consecutive week under 200.  If so, we will begin our transition to full day 5 days a week in-person learning with a remote learning option.  Details on both the in-person learning and the remote learning are being developed and will be sent to families in the upcoming weeks.

Shorewood Intermediate School

Effective February 15, students in grades 7 and 8 will begin in-person AA/BB hybrid instruction - with a remote learning option.

Shorewood High School

Effective February 22, students in grades 9-12 will begin in-person AA/BB hybrid instruction - with a remote learning option.

2021/2022 School Year

The District intends to begin the 2021/2022 school year with full-time, in-person five days a week instruction and a remote learning option for students at all grade levels.

Assessments of public health conditions will be ongoing throughout the summer months, and we will adjust operations, as needed, to ensure that District buildings and other facilities are safe for students, faculty and staff. The District’s Medical Advisory Group and the teachers’ union will be active partners in this planning as the new school year approaches.

Thank you for continuing to make health and safety a priority. We look forward to welcoming our intermediate and high school students back to school soon.

Sincerely,

Bryan Davis

Superintendent
