The District is now entering the final stretch of its facilities referendum construction projects and full completion is expected by December 2022.
With support from the community, students, staff, families and the District’s referendum partners—Huffman Facility Development and Miron Construction — the construction timeline has remained on schedule.
Over the past few months, both Shorewood elementary schools received upgrades in the form of brand-new traditional playgrounds, minor landscaping, site utility and fire suppression work, and final classroom renovations. Lake Bluff has achieved 100 percent completion, though additional work will likely be added next summer to install a new natural playground at Lake Bluff. Atwater is also at 100 percent completion, with the most recent item completed at the end of last month--new bookshelves for the Library Media Center.

The majority of construction at Shorewood High School is also complete. The main parking lot was successfully repaved and renovations across the administration building were completed (including the installation of a brand new Copperdome). Along with major arena, auditorium, and pool renovations, upgrades have also been made to the Powerhouse administration building, as well as many classrooms and several bathrooms.

The District’s next major focus will be Shorewood Intermediate School, where construction projects are set to begin over Winter Break, starting December 23. Classroom renovations will be cycled in throughout the remainder of the school year, and the big construction projects for SIS—including filling in The Commons pit—are set to take place during Summer 2022.
