Dear Shorewood Families,
The Shorewood School Board is delighted to announce that Dr. Sternke has agreed to serve as Interim Superintendent through July 2023. The Board will approve her contract extension at the next School Board meeting on Tuesday, December 14.
Over the last five months, Dr. Sternke has exceeded the Board's expectations. She has committed herself to becoming a visible presence in our District and our community, attending arts and athletic events, visiting classrooms and schools, reaching out to parents, Village organizations and peer districts, and much more.
Our Interim Superintendent search was focused on our top priorities, including implementation of our equity and strategic planning objectives, team-building with schools and staff, the successful completion of referendum projects and the District's financial health. Through her words and actions, Dr. Sternke has set a powerful example of leadership in addressing these topics and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping us achieve our goals.
As she has shared with many staff and community members, Dr. Sternke returned to Shorewood - where she started her career - in part, because of our commitment to equity. She has been an active partner in ICS work ongoing at the District, school and staff level. Her personal dedication to this broad initiative has already made a difference, elevating its visibility and sharing its impact with staff, students and District families.
We have received a great deal of positive feedback from parents and community members about Dr. Sternke's leadership and the opportunity for stability, and are deeply grateful that she will be with us next year. We look forward to working with her - and with you - in the months ahead to address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The Board plans to launch the search for a permanent Superintendent in November 2022. More details will be shared as planning gets underway.
