Important Message from Superintendent Sternke

Dear Shorewood Families,

School principals and District administration have become aware of a post circulating widely on the social media platform TikTok that references unspecified threats to school safety "for every school in the USA, even elementary" on Friday, December 17.

Neighboring school districts have also received this information and area police departments have been notified. While we do not believe the threat is credible, we are monitoring the situation and will notify you of any increased safety precautions we feel are necessary.

Threats to school safety are investigated and can result in disciplinary action, including expulsion. Sharing posts online about school safety, even if they are not credible, causes stress and anxiety for students, families and staff. We encourage you to remind your student(s) about responsible online behavior and to monitor their social media activity.

While we’ve received no credible Tik Tok threats, if your student - or you - becomes aware of any potential threat to school safety posted to social media, or anywhere else, please notify your school principal or a staff member immediately.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your partnership in keeping our students and schools safe.

Sincerely,

JoAnn Sternke

Interim Superintendent
