SIS Enrichment Programs
SIS offers a wide variety of clubs and programs to its students. The opportunities listed below are those that are hosted by the Advanced Learning Department. For a full list of SIS clubs and programs, please inquire at the Intermediate School.
Math Club
Students meet twice per week to learn new, challenging math topics and prepare for the math competition series. SIS students are invited to participate in the American Math Contest Level 8 (AMC8), MathCounts, Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) Division M. Students do not have to participate in any competitions to be part of Math Club.

Spelling Bee
Shorewood Intermediate School participates in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Students receive a list of spelling words that are used at the classroom-level and school-level bees. The top two students from each class advance to the school bee, and the top two students from the school bee advance to the regional bee with the chance to represent the region at the state and

Contemporary Classics
This reading enrichment program is offered to eligible 8th grade students and is designed to supplement the core language arts curriculum by providing greater opportunity for students to engage in challenging reading and discussions. The program is taught by retired SIS teacher and ATW principal Bonni Haber. Students meet every other week and read approximately 15 novels.

Center for Advanced Academics (formerly known as WCATY) Coursework
This online academic program provides a language arts curriculum replacement option for eligible 7th and 8th grade students. Participating students engage with other advanced students across the region in a variety of blended courses that meet for face-to-face meetings three times each quarter. The program was originated through UW-Madison and is now coordinated through Milwaukee Public Schools.
