2024-25 Strategic Visioning and Planning
Mapping Our Future
Our Vision and Strategic Planning Process
The Shorewood School District is embarking on the creation of a new, five-year strategic plan. Throughout the process, we will:
- Investigate trends in K-12 and higher education and implications for our schools
- Evaluate our educational model
- Respond to ongoing challenges with state funding for public education
- Identify options for financial sustainability
The results are in!
Thanks to our community’s incredible support and participation, we are ready to share the survey results to plan a path forward as we respond to the changing landscape in education, emerging student needs, and planning for funding sustainability.
Ways to Engage
Your voice is needed, and there will be many opportunities for members of the community to get involved.
Community Surveys
A first step in the process will be to share a series of brief surveys with you in the month of September. Mapping Our Future surveys will first ask you to share your vision for education in our community and reflect on financial scenarios related to enrollment and other dynamics in public education.
Visioning and Strategic Planning Committee
Another key component of this process is to establish a Strategic Planning Committee that represents the diversity of our community. This group of approximately 30 community members will work together with members of the District Leadership Team and School Board to review and analyze data, explore ideas and questions, and provide input throughout the process. Members of the Committee will be expected to attend full-day meetings on the following Saturdays: October 26, November 16, January 11, and February 22.
Focus Groups
Facilitated, small group discussions will be another core element of the visioning and strategic planning process. Sessions will be offered at a variety of times during the month of November to ensure that those with daytime or evening commitments can participate. The District will also organize student and staff focus group sessions.
Expert Facilitators
The Shorewood School District is working with the Donovan Group to build on these community engagement opportunities if needs arise as the visioning process gets underway. The Donovan Group team will attend School Board meetings and community events throughout the school year to gain and share input, help organize opportunities for student participation in the process, and work with our staff to analyze data and other visioning results that will serve as the foundation for out strategic planning work.
Watch for ongoing updates about this process.
