Human Growth and Development
The Shorewood School District is committed to supporting the health, safety, and well-being of every student. In accordance with Wisconsin Statute 118.019 and Board Policy 2414, the Human Growth and Development (HGD) program is designed to foster a partnership between families and schools to promote students' optimal health and well-being.
Shorewood's HGD program is further guided by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's Human Growth and Development Resource Guide, which emphasizes developmentally appropriate, medically accurate instructional and strong family-school collaboration. The district provides the opportunity for families to review instructional materials and the option to exempt a student from instruction if the student's family submits a written request to the teacher or school principal.
In Shorewood, the HGD curriculum is covered within Health Units. Grade levels that include HGD topics within these units are listed below. For additional Information about the topics covered in these lessons, click the links below.
We value families as students' primary educators and are committed to transparency, communication, and meaningful involvement. Please find links below for families who may be looking for more resources related to Human Growth and Development.
