Passages
Self-reflection is one of the most powerful and effective ways to learn, grow, and achieve success because it requires examining and interpreting personal experiences to gain new understanding.
In the 2017-18 school year, the Shorewood School District introduced the Passages program for all sixth graders. Passages are presentations in which students share how they have grown and developed, both as a learner and as a person of character. Passages offer sixth grade students the opportunity to reflect on past work and experiences as a way to prepare for their upcoming educational transition to the Intermediate School.
Passage presentations take place near the end of the school year, in mid-to-late May. During each Passage presentation, a student presents in front of a panel of community adults comprised of a District administrator, a Shorewood secondary teacher, and a local community member. Parents and families are also invited and encouraged to participate as audience members for their child’s Passage presentation. Following each presentation, the panelists have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to each student presenter.
