DPI Names Shorewood School District as Partner in Initiative to Improve Student Engagement
The Shorewood School District has been selected as one of three Wisconsin school districts chosen to partner with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and the SWIFT Education Center in a national initiative aimed at improving educational outcomes for students who have traditionally been marginalized in schools. This partnership, which is part of a four-year initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center on Inclusion Toward Rightful Presence, seeks to enhance academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support for students.
The SWIFT Education Center, located at the University of Kansas, has been recognized for its work in fostering inclusive educational environments that provide equitable opportunities for all students. The Shorewood School District, along with the Monona Grove and Altoona school districts, will serve as model demonstration sites for this transformative work.
“We are honored to have been selected as a partner in this important initiative,” said Kate Harder, Director of Special Education and Student Services. “This collaboration allows us to deepen our commitment to equity and inclusion, ensuring that every learner, particularly students with disabilities, experiences true belonging within our schools and communities.”
The Shorewood School District is excited to continue its commitment toward greater inclusion and to share its successes and challenges as part of this national effort.
