Tennis Champion Win

For the first time in program history, the Shorewood High School Girls Tennis Team has qualified for the WIAA Team State Championships, a milestone achievement in what has already been a record-breaking season.

Last week, the team secured its place as Woodland Conference Co-Champions, sharing the title with Greendale High School. Then, on Tuesday, Shorewood clinched the East Troy Sectional Championship, earning the program's first-ever participation in the Team State Tournament since the competition's inception in 1994.

"This is such an exciting moment for our team and for Shorewood tennis," said Coach Jesse Perez. "These girls have worked incredibly hard all season, and to see them make school history is just amazing. We've talked a lot about perseverance and teamwork, and this is the perfect reflection of that."

The WIAA hosts two statewide tournaments each fall: one for individual players and doubles teams, and another for full team competition. Shorewood will compete in the Team State Tournament on Saturday, October 25, starting at 9 a.m., alongside three other sectional champions.

"This is truly a team effort," Perez said. "We defeated last year's state champions, by just two points, 35-33, to win the sectional title. Every match, every point mattered."

As Shorewood prepares for both the individual and team state tournaments, Coach Perez hopes the community will continue to show its support.

"We hope the entire Shorewood community rallies behind this team," he said. "They've earned this moment, and they're ready to make Shorewood history."
