SHS senior Santiago Muirhead recently took the lead in organizing a transformative student summit aimed at improving education experiences across school districts. Held at SHS, the summit brought together student leaders from four area high schools, including Barack Obama School of MPS, Menomonee Falls High School, and Nicolet High School. Together, these students engaged in open, honest dialogue about the challenges and opportunities within their respective school systems.
The idea for the summit originated during a reflective moment in Santiago's Image & Word class, where a deep discussion about the current state of education systems planted the seeds for what would become a significant collaborative effort. Inspired by the class conversation, Santiago envisioned a space where students could share their lived experiences, elevated their voices, and collaborate across school boundaries to advocate for meaningful change.
Santiago's leadership and vision serve as a powerful reminder of the impact students can have when they are empowered to speak up and work together. His initiative reflects not only his passion for education but also the strength of student collaboration in driving positive change. SHS is proud to support student-led efforts like this, which highlight the importance of empathy, dialogue, and civic responsibility in shaping the future of education.
