Georgia SIS student

Congratulations to seventh-grade student, Georgia C., who has been selected as a local finalist in the National Civics Bee Competition! This annual event encourages young students to engage in civics and become active participants in their communities. As students compete for prizes, they also enhance their skills in civics, writing, and public speaking.

To qualify, students must respond to a three-question essay prompt proposing ideas to improve their communities. Judges select finalists to advance to local competitions, where they compete for trophies, prizes, and recognition.

Georgia, whose essay focused on amending voting rights for felons, received one of the highest scores in the area. She will now move on to the next round of the Civics Bee-a live competition hosted by the Waukesha County Business Alliance on April 30th at Carroll University. During the event, Georgia and other contestants will participate in two rounds of multiple-choice questions. The top five scorers will then present their essays to a panel of judges.

The top three winners from each local competition will advance to the State Finals, which take place in the late spring and summer. One finalist from each state will win a trip to Washington D.C., to compete for major prizes at the National Championship in the fall.

Best of luck, Georgia!
