Attendance & Absences

Attendance Matters Banner

Regular attendance is a key part of student success in the Shorewood School District. When students attend school consistently, they build strong routines, develop responsibility and stay connected to their learning community. Being present each day allows your child to engage fully in classroom instruction, collaborate with peers, and take advantage of the academic, creative, and extracurricular experiences that make Shorewood unique. Together, families and schools play an important role in supporting consistent attendance so every student can thrive.

Attendance at a Glance

  • Up to 10 days may be excused by a parent/guardian. This includes illness, vacation, or other prearranged absences.
  • Illnesses with medical documentation, emergency appointments, or hospitalizations are exempt from the 10-day total.
  • If a student misses more than 10 of the allotted attendance days, they are considered habitually truant.

Absence Reporting

Families now have a new, convenient way to report student absences online through the Infinite Campus app or website. By offering this option, we aim to make absence reporting easier, increase awareness of student attendance totals, and encourage consistent school attendance.

Online absence reporting may be used in place of calling the attendance line or sending an email to your child's school. This new option does not change any state-required reporting procedures or habitual truancy notifications.

Parents or guardians will continue to be able to report:

  • Full-day absences
  • Late arrivals
  • Early dismissals

Absences may be submitted using reasons such as parent-excused or medically exempt. For medically exempt absences, required documentation can also be uploaded directly through the Infinite Campus app or website.

Our goal is to support families by providing an easier, more accessible way to report student absences. This new option also simplifies the submission of appointment documentation to allow absences to be exempted by the school district.
