All students have the opportunity to participate in the annual SIS musical production. Continuing the Shorewood tradition of excellence in drama, SIS students learn through this production what it takes to maintain that standard by their involvement both on stage and behind the scenes. The success of this production is made possible by a partnership with the SHS Drama faculty providing invaluable guidance and support, along with SHS student drama mentors guiding SIS students through the production.

Show Circle

Students also have a chance to share their talents through Show Circle, the SIS variety show. Groups and individuals with a wide variety of talents are encouraged to audition. This is always a fun event enjoyed by students, parents and staff!

Students interested in working behind-the-scenes on Show Circle or SIS Musical get to experience set building, costume and makeup design, lighting and sound design, and other aspects of stage management, mentored by Shorewood Drama staff and high school students.

Students can participate in drama classes twice a week during the Guided Study period with the Shorewood Drama director.

Diversity Club

Mrs. Steiner operates an informal before-school club every Thursday for students interested in making the school a move diverse place -- or just meeting new people. Diversity Club meets in room 302 every Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Students are welcome to drop in any week to see what it’s all about, enjoy lively discussion, and sometimes hear from guest speakers. If you have questions, please email Mrs. Steiner.

Jazz Ensemble

Any student who plays an instrument may participate. Rehearsals are once a week before school. The group performs twice a year in the Shorewood High School Auditorium, and at the annual SEED fundraising event in March. Students also have the option to travel to and perform at a Jazz Festival in northern Illinois.

Math Counts

Students meet weekly during Guided Study to prepare for the MathCounts/AMC 8 competitions. Any student who enjoys math problem-solving can participate.

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad team members participate in competitions that are run like track meets. There are 23 events in each competition. Some events require participants to create something to be tested at the competition. Other events are testing events that require students to learn about a specific topic. At each competition, students must think and write like a scientist.

Students may contribute photography and artwork to the annual yearbook, the production of which is overseen by an SIS teacher.
