SHS Sophomore Wins NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing

SHS sophomore Shubh Goyal has been selected as the Wisconsin Affiliate Winner of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing, which honors 9th-12th grade students who self-identify as women, genderqueer, or non-binary for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Goyal will be honored in a NCWIT-WI Affiliate Aspirations Award Ceremony held virtually on Sunday, May 16.

Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education.

Goyal’s impressive school career thus far, including her college-level coursework in Computer Science and her volunteer work in Girls Who Code at UWM, made her a top candidate for the award.

“[Shubh’s] outstanding leadership, exceptional academic history, and forward-thinking ability distinguishes [her] as a remarkable young woman,” says NCWIT Aspirations in Computing WI Board Chair Joe Kmoch. ”As an Award recipient, [she is] inducted into the NCWIT Aspirations community of nearly 20,000 young women who, like [her], have a passion for computing and technology.”
