Important Message: Shorewood School District School Perceptions Survey

Dear Shorewood Parents and Guardians,

This is an important email concerning our upcoming annual Shorewood School District School Perceptions Surveys.  This correspondence gives you information concerning your participation as well as that of your child(ren), if they are in grades 4-12.  Please read both sections carefully.

Parent/Guardian Survey
Since 2017 we have contracted with School Perceptions, an independent educational research firm, to conduct student, staff and District family/resident surveys.  We make this commitment as your input is important to us. These surveys are a key tool in evaluating what we are doing well and where we should focus our improvement efforts.

I am writing to ask you to participate and have your voice heard.  This survey will be open through April 14 at 5:00 PM.  All surveys are conducted anonymously.

In the next few days, you will receive a parent/guardian email regarding our annual Shorewood School District School Perceptions Survey.  If you do not receive an email invitation to complete the survey, please first check your “spam/junk” folder.  Then, please contact the Shorewood School District Administration Office at (414) 963-6931 if you need a new code.

If you reside in the Village of Shorewood, you will also receive a mailed postcard with a survey code.   This code can be used by any adult member in your household who wishes to complete the survey.  You do not need to complete the survey both as a Village resident and a parent/guardian.

Since I am asking you to invest time in taking the survey, I want you to know we will be transparent in how we share and use the survey results.  I personally pledge that we will review all of your comments and suggestions and will use this data to set improvement goals as well as  identify strengths to capitalize on.  We will also share key results at a public Board meeting.

Please take time to complete this important survey.  By doing so, you will help to shape our academic programs and support services that contribute to reaching our mission of Equity, Growth, and Academic Excellence for All.

Student Survey
Students in grades 4-12 will also have the opportunity to participate in the Shorewood School District School Perceptions Student Engagement Survey* between April 11-22.  The survey, which is completely anonymous,  collects data on seven indicators of student engagement:

  • Connectedness
  • Drive
  • Citizenship
  • Preparation
  • Social and Emotional Aptitude
  • Wellness
  • Equity

*A complete list of the survey questions is available for viewing on the District website under the Parents/Students section.

The survey is designed to measure a student’s engagement in both their school work and school community. Our goal in conducting this survey is to identify how we can best support each of our students to ensure their lifelong success upon graduation from the Shorewood School District.

The web-based survey takes students approximately 15 minutes to complete. The survey is not a test, and student grades will not be affected by their responses or participation.  A copy of the survey is available for your review on the District website under Parents/Students -> School Perceptions Survey.

The data collected from this survey will help us to improve the quality of the education for your child as well as every student in the Shorewood School District. However, if you do not want your child to participate, please download, complete, and email the completed Survey Opt Out form to [email protected] by Thursday, April 7. This form must be completed and received by this date.  If no form is received, your child will be asked to participate in the survey.  The forms will not be accepted at the school office.

We hope to have the survey results in June and available for public viewing in August via the District website. Administration will use the summer to analyze the results and to plan for the upcoming school year.

If you have any questions, please call (414) 963-6931. As always, thank you for your partnership and commitment to the District and our students.

With respect and gratitude,

Dr. JoAnn Sternke
Shorewood Schools Superintendent
