North Shore Chamber Orchestra Concert - June 12th

Advanced orchestra students from Shorewood High School and Homestead High School will join together for a special performance at the new Bradley Symphony Center on Sunday, June 12 at 2 pm. The acclaimed Philomusica String Quartet and noted pianist Stefanie Jacob will also appear as performers in this concert. Tickets are required, but admission will not be charged. The public is warmly invited to attend this event.

Under the direction of Shorewood and Homestead Orchestra conductors Karen Frink and John W. Emanuelson, the students will perform Elgar’s brilliant Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet and String Orchestra and Bloch’s dramatic Concerto Grosso for String Orchestra and Piano Obbligato, with Philomusica and Jacob serving as professional guest artists.

“We are honored to be the first non-professional orchestra to perform in Milwaukee’s newest and finest concert hall,” Emanuelson stated. “We reached out to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s management with this exciting performance suggestion, and are thrilled to be welcomed by the MSO to share the talents of our students in this special venue.”

“We have performed with our combined advanced students at Carnegie Hall in 2014 and2018, but the pandemic made continuing this special experience for our most dedicated students impossible. With the support of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, we are excited to organize an equivalent experience for our musicians right here in Milwaukee,” Frink explained.

“Having the world-class professional musicians of the Philomusica String Quartet and Stefanie Jacob, who is an amazing pianist, perform with our group has raised the bar for all of our students,” added Emanuelson.

Both orchestras have performed this repertoire previously with these guest artists in community concerts earlier this year, and found it was tremendously motivating to perform side-by-side with Philomusica and Jacob. “The professionals really helped all of us to take our music making to the next level,” said Frink. Emanuelson added, “We feel our audience will be very pleased and surprised at the high level of music making from our combined student and professional orchestras at this special concert.”

Philomusica Quartet is comprised of violinists Jeanyi Kim and Sascha Mandl, violist Nathan Hackett, and cellist Adrien Zitoun. Kim, Hackett, and Zitoun are all members of theMilwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Mandl serves as Concertmaster of the Kenosha and Racine Symphony Orchestras. Together, they are artists in residence at Wisconsin Lutheran College, where they offer a recital series of performances to critical and audience acclaim.

Stefanie Jacob is the pianist of the acclaimed Prometheus Trio, which also includes Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra musicians Margot Schwartz, violin, and Scott Tisdel, cello. The Prometheus Trio is celebrating its 22nd Season this year, performing recitals in residence at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Jacob has also been a frequent performer with the MSO.

“We feel very fortunate to be able to have our students make music with artists of the caliber of Philomusica and Stefanie Jacob”, stated Karen Frink. “It is very special to work with these kind and inspiring artists from the Milwaukee performing arts community.”

Admission will not be charged for this performance. Tickets may be obtained from Karen Frink or members of the Shorewood and Homestead Chamber Orchestras. For more information or tickets, please contact Directors John Emanuelson or Karen Frink at [email protected].
