A Special Thanks to Principal Carter as we Kick off National Principal Month

Principal at Atwater Elementary in Shorewood

Janice's staff and students describe her as joyful, supportive, and direct. She has been in education for 30 years and this school year marks her third year at Atwater Elementary. We asked Janice some questions about her background and why she loves what she does!

What do you like best about being a school principal?
I absolutely love my students. They bring me such joy and new perspectives on everything. If anyone ever has a bad day, they will certainly turn it around for the better.

Who inspires you and why?
My sources of inspiration are varied. My nephews who have evolved into such reflective intelligent young men, my students who have pushed past odds that some adults would not have been able to handle, and finally, my family members who accomplish goals they have set for themselves. I will often look at other people's accomplishments and use them as sources of motivation and inspiration.

If you could give your students one piece of life advice, what would it be?
I would share what my grandmother told me when I was growing up which was all you have to do is believe you can and that is half the battle.

The Shorewood School District thanks you Janice for your leadership! Thank you for making Atwater Elementary a great place to learn and to work!
