Hear from Shorewood students about their first day of school experiences, any differences inside their schools that they noticed from last year to this year, and what they are most looking forward to in the upcoming school year.

On my first day of kindergarten I'm having so much fun! 'What stuff you excited to do at school this year?' Everything! It's really fun so far! I have an older sister so I already know the teachers are nice! I found one of my favorite toys that they have there. 'In your classroom?' Legos! It's going great! It's going pretty good I have to tell you something, when we went outside, all of the parents were gone! Hi what's your name? It's Mr. Smiley Face. Ah, you, you have to come in and see! I am eating my pizza right now! So um me and Blake have had Spanish class and now we're doing this... we started the day off with crew meeting and parachute and then we had recess and then we came inside to do Spanish and now we're in PE Um there's lots of toys to play with, and we do calendar, and we get to read books!= and sing songs. What's good. First day of school, doing great! How you guys doing? Good. We had storytime we, we just looked at pictures, we did days of the week, and we did other fun stuff! We did play stuff and dinosaurs and cars and also dramatic play! Great! Our teachers are amazing they're so nice and so great. They um, they have snacks for if you forget a snack and they provide us with lots of stuff, and I also really like Mr. Rosen because I've heard rumors that he tells very fun jokes in Math. All the renovations. This is our last year here! All the offices are new, the carpets are getting redone, um there are new windows 'Do you guys think your school looks a lot better with all the renovations?' Yes. Definitely. Flooring! Ya the flooring on every single hall is just really different. It used to be blue red and white pattern and now it's like beige and white. I noticed the floors are different They were painted I think. There's been a lot of construction and the basement it's like white floors and white gloss. The gym is different. They just like redid the flooring on the ground. 'Did you guys hear about the new playground you're getting?' Ya! 'When it's built, what do you think the new playground's gonna have on it?' Umm, the same somewhat of the same stuff as last time but newer and probably better! Ya. I think it's going to be way fun! Ya, definitely. My sister's in seventh, Darla, um and everybody that was in sixth that was leaving got to vote and some people voted for ziplines so I kinda know if there might be a zipline, hoping, maybe! I am most excited about the train tracks! I'm really excited that because last year I did virtual, I'm really excited to be back. I'm really excited for Kid City because we get to make the stuff now I mean, ya it's gonna be fun. I'm really excited for Spanish! And learning the alphabet. 'You want to learn the alphabet?' (nods) I'm excited for social studies. Kid City and I finally have history class. Ya that's what I'm most excited for too. Play alot and draw! Math, math! I love math and I'm really excited, um, for writing because I've never actually had writing as a subject before. Um, I'm really excited for the question that my brother said was really hard. Cal plus mu which is an algebra problem and I'm really excited for that, so. I'm really excited to do art. I hope we do some pottery! I'm excited for social studies. Being a fourth grader! Yeah me too. I want to learn how to speak Spanish fluently. and um I want learn a bit more of history. I'm excited for, um, if we are able to go on field- -trips, I'm excited about read aloud I'm excited for you know...just EVERYTHING.
